"I was walking down the street in January of 2006. I was hungry, but had two dollars in my pocket and was on my way to buy some booze. A man stuck his head out of a building doorway and yelled, “Hey, you hungry? They’re feeding in here.” I went to the door and there was all these people serving food. I got a plate of food and sat down. As I sat there, the feeling of wanting to drink left me. Peace came over me. I was taken back a bit and told the lady standing behind the table what had just happened. She had some folks pray for me and I gave my life to Jesus. That was over a year ago and I haven’t struggled with addiction to drugs or alcohol since. I’m now a part of Hope City’s team and am interacting 3 to 4 days a week in the ministry."-- Marsha H.

"I was walking down the street on my way home from work around two years ago. A lady told me that there were people inside praying. She said they pray here every week and invited me to come. I was looking for God everywhere and knew he was speaking to me so I went in. I have struggled with loneliness for many years. These people told me I belonged and had a place with them. I am now serving God and know my place is truly with Him. I still have struggles but I now have people to help me walk it out." --Martha B.

Barbara Barbara -- 54 years old

"My friend Randy invited me to a “church deal” dinner at a building on Monday night. I liked the surroundings and I liked the people and I have been coming 3 times a week for about a year. I am a Jewish lady who didn’t realize I needed a savior. I prayed to receive Jesus in my heart about 2 months ago. I like reading my Bible at the Prayer time." -- Barbara L.

summer 2006 hope city 018  Rae -- 45 years old

"At the time I met Hope City, I worked as head of security at a midtown apartment complex.  What I was doing was unofficial and I was relying on my past contact with the DEA. I was a registered informant for a time, and helped local CAT officers where ever I could. I hated crack and what it did to the lives of people and their families as well as the community; but I did not see that God had a better plan for me. Hope City gave me an understanding that only by embracing Jesus Christ nothing else would work and without Jesus there is no hope. I lived on the edge sometimes and felt like I was wandering in the wilderness of life and I'm so thankful Jesus, who is now my Lord, and Savior, has put people in my path such as all the members of Hope City. The love that they share is real and I'm so glad that they are in my life."-- Rae

butch 2 Butch-- 40 years old

"About three years ago I jumped down some stairs while I was high and I hit a concrete wall head first and I went into a coma for 4 months. I woke up at St. Luke’s Hospital. I lost some of my brain function and I was moved into Clara Manor nursing Home where I live now. I've been coming to Hope City's ministry center for about a year. I gave my life to Jesus on the first night." -- Butch

chase and hope city faces 020 Kris -- 20 years old

"I was homeless, without any family, and living under some stairs when it was 0 degrees outside. First Hope City gave me a sleeping bag and some food, then I began attending the prayer meetings. Since then I have seen the changes Jesus makes in peoples lives and I gave my life to Him. I have to do a stint in rehab, Hope City continues to be my visiting family, and I can't wait to get back there and help!" -- Kris

ZekeT Zeke -- 59 years old

"I used to live on the bottom floor of a vacant 10 story building. These people used to come and feed homeless and poor people and pray in the building. I didn't like them very much and was annoyed when they would come and ask for my help, but I was curious about God and why they kept doing it week after week. A little while later I got really sick and the people from Hope City really helped me out. The building I was in got shut down, and they helped me get into the place I'm in now, and even helped me pay for it! I'm still curious about God and am starting to go to their prayer meetings. Hope City has been a place where I have found some good friends." -- Zeke

connie  Connie -- 48 years old

"I've had 20 + years on the streets as a drug dealer and a drug user. I've always had a heart for God but never could encounter Him in a way that set me free from my issues. I am now glad to say that I am free from some of the things that have held me in my life. I consider myself a vital part of Hope City's ministry." -- Connie
